Thomas M. Isaacson practices primarily patent prosecution and client counseling. His experience includes representing Fortune 500 and other companies on patent prosecution, trademark, and litigation matters. Mr. Isaacson’s technological experience includes standards-based patent analysis and prosecution, cloud computing technologies, DVD technologies, and the mechanical arts.
In 2000, Mr. Isaacson joined AT&T’s intellectual property legal department where he managed AT&T Wireless Service’s patent portfolio and strategic development. Mr. Isaacson's in-house work included client counseling, patent application preparation, patent prosecution, intellectual property strategy and licensing. He also managed and reviewed work from outside counsel on many patent prosecution matters. Following the spin-off of AT&T Wireless Services from AT&T Corp. in 2001, he continued to provide intellectual property counsel for the voice-enabled services research lab focusing on strategic patent prosecution and licensing of industry standards-based technologies such as MPEG-4 (part 2 and part 10), MPEG-7, DVB-T and MPEG-2000.
Mr. Isaacson is also active in professional associations and is a frequent speaker and moderator for associations such as AIPLA, the ABA and Glasser Legalworks. He has spoken or moderated on such issues as patent prosecution, recent changes in patent practice and PCT practice. Tom has also taught at the University of Maryland Law School on topics such as determining damages in court proceedings.
