Thomas M. Dunham is the Chair of the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and a
registered patent attorney whose practice focuses on district court litigation,
patent licensing, appellate work and client counseling. His technical experience includes
wireless and wireline telecommunications, computer hardware and software, automotive
technologies, networking technology, aviation systems, imaging, fiber optics,
medical devices and systems, and optical disk technology. In his practice, Mr. Dunham works to
achieve legally efficient business solutions to complex intellectual property
challenges.
Before practicing law, Mr. Dunham was a staff engineer in General Electric
Corporation's Aerospace Control Systems Division. At GE-ACSD, he developed
advanced airborne control system hardware, software and systems used primarily
in military and civil applications.
Highlights
MHL Tek v. BMW. Defended BMW against allegations of infringement relating to tire pressure monitoring technology. Won summary judgment of non-infringement in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Abstrax v. Sun Microsystems, Inc. Defended Sun Microsystems and won transfer of a patent infringement action from the Eastern District of Texas to the Northern District of California.
Balther v. BMW. Obtained voluntary dismissal of a patent infringement action that Balther brought against BMW in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Sun Microsystems, Inc. v. Azul Systems, Inc. Represented Sun Microsystems to halt Azul's infringement of Sun patents relating to multiprocessor system technology and to remedy Azul's theft of trade secrets. Obtained a very favorable settlement on behalf of Sun.
CIVIX-DDI, LLC v. Verizon Wireless et al. Defended Verizon Wireless against allegations of infringement relating to cellular location services and processing.
Ronald A. Katz Technology Licensing, L.P. v. Verizon Wireless et al. Defended Verizon Wireless in a patent infringement matter relating to interactive voice response over cellular telephone systems and prepaid cellular telephone systems.
Moen Technologies, LLC v. The Coca-Cola Company, Inc. Defended Coca-Cola against allegations of infringement relating to Internet and telephonic promotional systems. Secured a favorable settlement for Coca-Cola.
Proxim, Inc.–In the Matter of Certain Network Interface Cards and Access Points for Use in Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Wireless Local Area Networks and Products Containing Same. Represented Proxim in a patent infringement matter relating to 802.11 wireless computer networking.
