Ryan C. Durham practices patent prosecution for complex software, including encryption, speech processing, telecommunications, as well as business methods such as targeted advertising and payment processing. Mr. Durham has drafted over 140 patent applications, including patent preparation and prosecution for a major telecommunications corporation, a well-known multinational consumer electronics brand, and a networking infrastructure company, as well as individual inventors and technology startups. Example technical subject matter includes speech recognition and synthesis, wireless and mobile speech applications, digital signal processing, video search, audio CAPTCHAs, consumer and enterprise level encryption, obfuscation, digital rights management (DRM), gift cards, bar codes, social networking, digital content delivery, deep space communications protocols and user interfaces.
Mr. Durham has participated in preparing several reexamination requests and defending patent owners in reexamination proceedings. Mr. Durham has growing experience in this complex, high-stakes area of patent law.
In law school, Mr. Durham was President of the Creighton Law School Intellectual Property Law Society (IPLS) and Treasurer of the Student Bar Association. As IPLS President, Mr. Durham organized joint activities with the Business Law Society to foster understanding of IP's importance to business.
Prior to law school, Mr. Durham owned and operated a software consulting
company that provided custom software solutions for customer management,
scheduling and messaging for small and medium businesses. Mr. Durham currently dabbles as a developer
in his (scarce) spare time, having developed applications for HP webOS and iOS,
as well as web-based applications using Perl, PHP, and Ajax. Mr. Durham is a fervent advocate of the
virtues of webOS as a mobile platform.
