Michael Woods is an experienced patent litigator who has represented clients in courts all over the country. His practice focuses on patent litigation and counseling. Mr. Woods’ litigation experience has involved a wide range of technologies, including computer software and hardware, appliances, and medical devices.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Woods served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer and as a Pentagon staff officer. He completed lengthy tours on two nuclear submarines and as the officer-in-charge of a land-based nuclear reactor facility, where he was responsible for the testing and development of new equipment and the installation of a new reactor core. At the Pentagon, Mr. Woods served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense where he was responsible for reviewing acquisition and technology programs for compliance with international arms control agreements. He has extensive experience with submarine technology, aircraft systems, missile booster technology, telemetry data systems, and power generation technology. In addition, Mr. Woods represented the Department of Defense during various international arms control negotiations.

Highlights

Abstrax Inc. v. Sun Microsystems, Inc. Defended Sun Microsystems and won transfer of a patent infringement action from the Eastern District of Texas to the Northern District of California.

Dr. Eckhard Alt v. Boston Scientific Corporation. Successfully defended Boston Scientific Corporation in a patent infringement action concerning cardiovascular stents.

LG Electronics, Inc. v. ASKO Appliances, Inc. et al. Represented defendants from three different countries in a patent infringement action concerning washing machines.

Noah Systems, Inc. v. Intuit Inc. Defended Intuit Inc. in a patent infringement action involving a business method patent.

OrbusNeich Medical Co., Ltd., et al. v. Boston Scientific Corporation. Defended Boston Scientific Corporation against multiple allegations, including trade secret misappropriation, fraud, breach of contract, and patent infringement concerning cardiovascular stents.

T.M. Patents et. al. v. Sun Microsystems, Inc. Represented Sun Microsystems in a patent infringement action involving multiple patents on disk storage systems and message routing in servers.

MHL Tek v. BMW. Assisted in successfully defending BMW against allegations of infringement relating to tire pressure monitoring technology.  Responsible for preparation of invalidity defenses. 

Positive Technologies, Inc. v. Dell et al.  Defended Dell in a multiple patent infringement suit on LCD technology and won transfer of the litigation from the Eastern District of Texas to the Northern District of California.
 
Realtime Data, LLC v. Verizon Wireless et al.  Defended Verizon Wireless in an eight patent infringement suit on data compression and acceleration technology.
 
Prime Solution v. Fournier Industries, Inc.  Defended Fournier in a patent infringement suit on rotary fan press technology used in wastewater treatment.
