Novak Druce + Quigg LLP Names Newly Promoted Partners

Houston, TX: Novak Druce + Quigg LLP, a full service intellectual property law firm, is pleased to announce that Jason W. Bryan, S. Peter Konzel, and James P. Murphy have been promoted to Partner, effective January 1, 2010. 

In making the announcement Novak Druce + Quigg Managing Partner and CEO Greg Novak said, “over the past year these three individuals have made significant advancements to their individual practices while advancing Firm efforts. This is what we look for in a Partner and they will help usher in the next generation of our Firm.  Please join me in congratulating Jason, Peter and James on their efforts.”

Jason W. Bryan, resident in Houston, plays a significant role in Novak Druce’s chemical technologies patent prosecution practice, serving both Houston based as well as international clients.  Mr. Bryan oversees the management of a number of patent portfolios for clients that are leaders in their respective fields, advising on both domestic and international filing strategies.  Additionally, Mr. Bryan provides support to Novak Druce’s leading reexamination practice as well as its litigation practice.  Mr. Bryan has significant experience in the chemical arts including organic compounds, polymers, catalysts, distillation, processes, reactions, as well as biotechnology arts. He earned his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, with distinction, from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is admitted to the Bars in Massachusetts, New York, and the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

S. Peter Konzel, resident in Washington DC, oversees the daily operations of Novak Druce’s fast growing practice in Japan.  In addition to prosecuting US and foreign applications in wide range of technological fields, e.g., biotech, chemical, electrical, mechanical/electromechanical and semiconductor arts, Mr. Konzel also performs analyses and opinion-type work, and assists with both ex parte and inter partes reexamination type proceedings as well as IP litigation.  Mr. Konzel is a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He served his country during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal for his service related thereto.  He received his J.D. from The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law, where he concentrated his studies in Patent/IP law and he holds a B.S. in Biology from The State University of New York at Geneseo.  He is admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

James P. Murphy, resident in San Francisco, is a core member of Novak Druce’s nationally recognized reexamination practice and has significant experience in patent prosecution, reexamination and litigation. He has also worked closely with both in-house as well as outside counsel to develop the most effective strategies relating to obtaining patents, licensing negotiations and asserting or defending patents in litigation. The technical areas Mr. Murphy’s work has covered include telecommunications, semiconductors, software user interface designs, multi-media distribution, computer networks and others. Mr. Murphy’s reexamination practice now focuses primarily on patents involved in complex high value litigation in front of both U.S. District Courts as well as the International Trade Commission.  He has been a key member of nearly 100 reexamination cases and helped establish Novak Druce’s San Francisco office. He received his J.D. from the South Texas College of Law and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. He is admitted to the Bars in California, Texas, and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
